Understanding the Difference Between Speaking and Teaching
This was a fascinating question from my TESOL 150-hour course, and it sparked deep reflection.

As a Vietnamese language teacher, I’ve learned that fluency alone isn’t enough to guide learners effectively. Teaching is more than just knowing the words and grammar—it’s about understanding how people learn, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, and tailoring lessons to meet each learner’s unique needs.
While speaking a language fluently is a valuable foundation, truly effective teaching requires a broader skill set. It’s a combination of pedagogical training, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to adapt strategies for different learners. These elements ensure lessons are engaging, meaningful, and practical for real-life application.
Imagine baking a cake: you might have all the right ingredients, but without the proper technique, the cake might not turn out as intended. Teaching a language is much the same
